Alliance Française de la Région Nelson -Tasman

French Classes for children 2010

The Alliance Française is part of a worldwide network of more than 1200 independent associations linked to the Alliance Française in Paris which is dedicated to the teaching of French and the organisation of social and cultural activities.

To this aim, The Alliance Française de Nelson is coordinating French Classes for small groups of children from six to eleven years old. Children gain a lot of benefits from learning a foreign language. This initiation will enhance their intellectual development and their way of thinking, increase their sensitivity to sounds and intonation, improve their command of their own language and open their minds to other cultures … to list only a few.

The lessons will include speaking, listening and writing through games, songs and role-play based on a range of topics (my friends, my house, animals, food…). Children will learn words with emphasis on pronunciation, basic grammatical structures and some everyday brief conversations (greetings, a few words about themselves…). Explanations will be in English.

Regular attendance at the French lessons is necessary to make progress.

After 2 years of successful lessons, we wish to continue with the existing classes and to start new classes for newcomers. The dates for 2010 will be:

Term 1: week starting 15th February to 29th March 2010 (7 weeks)

Term 2: week starting 19th April to 28th June 2010 (11 weeks)
